Week 28 Day 1
learning
is
more than accumulating information
more than the piling up of propositions
more than filling our cerebral filing cabinet with facts
it is the wonderful way God made us
of knowing what to hold on to
what to let go of
it is a bringing together of
mind
body
spirit
knowing what to do with hand and heart
how to distinguish
how to question
how to respond
there is a quality of wisdom about learning
a student in confirmation class noted that
"wisdom is knowing what to do with what you got"
we are called by God
not only to know the facts of the faith
but to know Jesus in the most intimate way
to know Jesus
is to do his will

GET WISE
The discipline of learning is good for body, mind and soul.
Proverbs 1 & 3
1The proverbs of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel:
2To know wisdom and instruction,
To perceive the words of understanding,
3To receive the instruction of wisdom,
4To give prudence to the simple,
To the young man knowledge and discretion.
5A wise man will hear and increase learning,
And a man of understanding will attain wise counsel.
7The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge,
But fools despise wisdom and instruction.
8My son, hear the instruction of your father,
And do not forsake the law of your mother;
9They will be a graceful ornament on your head,
And chains about your neck.
1My son, let your heart keep my commands;
2Long life and peace they will add to you.
3Let not mercy and truth forsake you;
Bind them around your neck, write them on your heart,
4And so find favor and esteem in the sight of God and man.
5Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
And lean not on your own understanding;
6 In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He shall direct your paths.
7Do not be wise in your own eyes;
Fear the Lord and depart from evil.
8 It will be health to your flesh, and strength to your bones.
9Honor the Lord with your possessions,
And with the firstfruits of all your increase;
10So your barns will be filled with plenty,
And your vats will overflow with new wine.
11My son, do not despise the chastening of the Lord,
Nor detest His correction; 12Whom the Lord loves He corrects,
Just as a father the son in whom he delights.
13Happy is the man who finds wisdom and understanding.
14For her proceeds are better than the profits of silver,
And her gain than fine gold. 15She is more precious than rubies,
And all the things you may desire cannot compare with her.
16Length of days is in her right hand, in her left riches and honor.
17Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace.
18She is a tree of life to those who take hold of her,
And happy are all who retain her.
