Week 40 Day 1
In this week's readings Jesus is talking specifically to his disciples
preparing them for the time
when he will no longer be with them
preparing them to survive
the ordeal of his death
preparing them to continue the work he started
preaching teaching healing loving.
This is a course in "trust me"
---I am the way; stay with me, abide in me
---The Father and I are one; we will be with you always
---Whatever you need, ask in prayer and I will do it
---When I leave you for awhile I will send you a Helper to take my place
---I will come back some day and take you with me
---Love and serve one another
---Go and bear much fruit for the kingdom
---Your joy will be complete
---My peace is yours for the taking
---Don't be afraid; trust me
Jesus speaks of a union
Father and Son
and invites us in
the key to union is love
the evidence of union is joy
God wants to make his home with us
COUNTDOWN TO THE CROSS
Time has come for Jesus to glorify God by giving up his life.
1Six days before the Passover, Jesus came to Bethany.
2There they made Him a supper; Martha served, and Lazarus
was one of those who sat at the table with Him. 3Mary took
a pound of very costly oil of spikenard, anointed the feet of
Jesus, and wiped His feet with her hair. And the house was
filled with the fragrance of the oil.
4Judas Iscariot said, 5"Why was this fragrant oil not sold
for three hundred denarii and given to the poor?" 7But Jesus
said, "Let her alone; she has kept this for the day of My burial.
8The poor you have always; Me you do not have always."
12A great multitude that had come to the feast, when they
heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, took branches of
palm trees and went out to meet Him and cried out: "Hosanna!
Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!" 14Jesus
sat on a young donkey, as it is written: 15"Fear not, behold
your King is coming, sitting on a donkey's colt." 16His disciples did not understand at first; but when Jesus was glorified they remembered that these things were written.
18People met Him, because they heard that He called
Lazarus out of his tomb and raised him from the dead. 19The Pharisees said, "Look, the world has gone after Him."
20There were Greeks among those who came up to worship
at the feast. 21They came to Philip and asked him, saying,
"Sir, we wish to see Jesus." 22Philip came and told Andrew,
and in turn Andrew and Philip told Jesus.
23Jesus answered them, saying, "The hour has come that the
Son of Man should be glorified. 24 I say to you, unless a grain
of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much grain. 25He who loves his life will lose it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. 26 If anyone serves Me, let him follow Me; where I am, My servant will be also, and My Father will honor him.
27"Now My soul is troubled, and what shall I say? "Father,
save Me from this hour?' But for this purpose I came. 28Father, glorify Your name." Then a voice came from heaven, saying, "I have both glorified it and will glorify it again."
30Jesus said, "This voice did not come because of Me, but
for your sake. 31Now is the judgment of this world; now the
ruler of this world will be cast out. 32And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to Myself." This Bible passage was condensed from the NKJV
