Week 50 Day 3
When you have a fight with someone
don't go shopping
because James says that shopping
in the sense of accumulating things
would made the problem worse
He says that the seeds of conflict are in our desires
to have more and more
to take what we want
and we can point to examples of strife
where people fought and killed and claimed rights to
James tells us not to be that way
don't be grabbers and takers
rather cleanse your hands
purify your heart
and talk to God about what you need.
And about tomorrow--
we are not entitled to it
we are not in control of it
so we shouldn't be arrogant
God makes the sun rise, we do not
Each day is a gift from God
accept God's gift
and in thankful, out-spoken praise.
A little humility can go a long way!
James 4 & 5
1Where do wars and fights come from among you? Do they not come from your desires for pleasure. 2You lust and do not have. You murder and covet and cannot obtain. You fight and war. Yet you do not have because you do not ask. 3You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss. Do you not know that a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.
6But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: "God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble."
7Submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.
8Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your
hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
9Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom.
10Be humble in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.
11He who speaks evil of a brother and judges his brother,
speaks evil of the law and judges the law. 12There is one
Lawgiver. Who are you to judge another?
13You who say, "Today or tomorrow we will go to such
and such a city, buy and sell, and make a profit"; 14you do not know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? It is
even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes
away. 15 Instead you ought to say, "If the Lord wills, we shall
live and do this or that." 16You boast in your arrogance.
17He who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin. 8Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is at hand.
9Do not grumble against one another, lest you be condemned.
Behold the Judge is standing at the door! 10Take the prophets,
who spoke in the name of the Lord, as an example of suffering
and patience. 11 Indeed we count them blessed who endure.
13 Is anyone suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful?
Let him sing psalms. 14 Is anyone sick? Let him call for the
elders of the church to pray over him, anointing him with oil in
the name of the Lord. 15The prayer of faith will save the sick,
and the Lord will raise him up. If he has committed sins, he will
be forgiven. 16Confess your sins to one another, and pray, that
you may be healed. Effective and fervent prayer avails much.
19 If anyone wanders from the truth, and someone turns him
back, 20let him know that he who turns a sinner from error
will save a soul from death and cover a multitude of sins. This Bible passage was condensed from the NKJV
