Week 30 Day 5
Two themes are common in this book
judgment and salvation
Isaiah alternates between
of God's angry love
and beautiful visions
of God's mercy
Those who lived through the former
were better able to appreciate the latter
God used judgment
as a teacher
as a loving deliverer
God wants to exchange
the day of destruction
for an eternity of redemption
Your doom is not sealed
God wants to forgive you and heal you.
When Isaiah describes God's salvation
it seems he is seeing beyond
the immediate return
of the exiles to Jerusalem
to an even greater deliverance from sin and death
to a reign of righteousness, peace and justice
by a greater-than-David, son of David, the Messiah.
You who have no money
That's God's economy.
FREE FOOD It's not hot dogs, it's the best fare of all! Isaiah 54, 55 & 56
5"Your Maker is your husband, the Lord of hosts.
6The Lord has called you like a woman forsaken and grieved.
7For a mere moment I have forsaken you,
But with great mercies I will gather you.
8With a little wrath I hid My face from you for a moment;
But with everlasting kindness I will have mercy on you.
1"Ho! Everyone who thirsts, come to the waters;
You who have no money, come, buy and eat.
Yes, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price.
2Why do you spend money for what is not bread,
And your wages for what does not satisfy? Listen carefully,
Eat what is good, and let your soul delight itself in abundance.
3 Incline your ear, and come to Me. Hear, and your soul shall live;
I will make an everlasting covenant with you.
4 Indeed I have given him as a witness to the people.
5Nations who do not know you shall run to you, because of the
Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel; for He has glorified you."
6Seek the Lord while He may be found,
Call upon Him while He is near.
Let the wicked forsake his way; the unrighteous his thoughts;
Let him return to the Lord, and He will have mercy on him,
And to our God, for He will abundantly pardon.
8"My thoughts are not your thoughts,
Nor are your ways My ways," says the Lord.
9"As the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts.
10"As the rain comes down, and the snow from heaven,
And do not return but water the earth, and make it bud,
That it may give seed to the sower and bread to the eater,
11So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth;
It shall not return to Me void, but shall accomplish what I please.
12"You shall go out with joy, and be led out with peace;
The mountains and the hills shall break forth into singing,
All the trees of the field shall clap their hands.
13 Instead of the thorn shall come up the cypress tree,
Instead of the brier shall come up the myrtle tree.
1"Keep justice, for My salvation is about to come.
2Blessed is the man who does this,
And the son of man who lays hold on it." This Bible passage was condensed from the NKJV
