Week 34 Day 6
peace seems such an elusive quality
people plan for it
devise methods for it
institute programs for it
and yet it seems to evaporate
dissipating like the morning dew
disappearing with the next disagreement
an illusion for the cynics
a dream for the hopeful
a goal for the faithful
"Peace is that full, rich, harmonious state
of well-being for all people,"
still there are those who say
there can be no peace unless one is well-armed
then why not with the armor of God
truth and righteousness
the gospel of peace and faith
salvation and the word of God
but what are these in the face
of power politics and overwhelming force
and the Lord says, "Bethlehem. . . . you are one of the
smallest towns of Judah, but out of you I will bring a ruler. . . and he will bring peace."
Take courage and get your plumb line ready.
Zechariah 1, 4, 7 & 8
1 In the second year of Darius, the word of the Lord came
to Zechariah the prophet, saying, 3"Return to Me, and I will
return to you. 4Do not be like your fathers, to whom former
prophets preached. They did not hear nor heed Me."
1The angel who talked with me wakened me, as a man is
wakened out of his sleep. 2He said, "What do you see?" So
I said, "There is a lampstand of solid gold with a bowl on top,
and on the stand seven lamps with seven pipes." 4So I spoke,
saying "What are these, my lord?"
5The angel answered me, "Do you not know what these are?"
And I said, "No, my lord." 6He answered, "This is the word
of the Lord to Zerubbabel: 'Not by might nor by power, but by
My Spirit,' says the Lord of hosts. 7'Who are you, O great
mountain? Before Zerubbabel you shall become a plain! He
shall bring forth the capstone with shouts of "Grace, grace to it!"'"
8Moreover the word of the Lord came, saying: 9"The hands
of Zerubbabel have laid the foundation of this temple; and his
hands shall finish it. 10For these seven rejoice to see the plumb
line in the hand of Zerubbabel. They are the eyes of the Lord,
which scan to and fro throughout the whole earth."
8Then the word of the Lord came to Zechariah, saying,
9"Execute true justice, show mercy and compassion. 10Do not
oppress the widow or the fatherless, the alien or the poor. Let
none of you plan evil in his heart against his brother."
13"Just as you were a curse among the nations, O house of
Judah, and house of Israel, so I will save you, and you shall be
a blessing. Do not fear, let your hands be strong. Just as I
determined to punish you when your fathers provoked Me to
wrath, 15so again in these days I am determined to do good
to Jerusalem and to the house of Judah. Do not fear.
16"These are the things you shall do: Speak each man the
truth to his neighbor; give judgment in your gates for truth,
justice, and peace; 17let none of you think evil in your heart
against your neighbor; and do not love a false oath. For all
these are things that I, the Lord, hate.
20"Peoples shall yet come from many cities, saying, 21'Let
us go and pray and seek the Lord. I myself will go also.' 23 In
those days ten men from every language of the nations shall
grasp the sleeve of a Jewish man, saying, 'Let us go with you,
for we have heard that God is with you.'" This Bible passage was condensed from the NKJV
